Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those to trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever.

MESSAGE

Scripture Reading
Luke 1:30-31, 34
Matthew 3:1-12
CLM Twinkle Gordon

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.
Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”
In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said,
“The voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
make his paths straight.’ ”
Now John wore clothing of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region around the Jordan were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the River Jordan, confessing their sins.
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Therefore, bear fruit worthy of repentance, and do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our ancestor,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
“I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

Prayer for Illumination

Leader: May the words of my mouth,
People: and the meditations of all of our hearts
All: be acceptable in your sight, O Lord our rock and our redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.

1. Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man, no more.

Refrain
One bread, one body, one Lord of all, one cup of blessing which we bless. And we, though many
throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.

People Look East
UMH #202
WORDS: Eleanor Farjeon, 1928
Words by permission of David Higham Assoc. Ltd.

1. People, look east. The time is near of the crowning of the year. Make your house fair as you are able, trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east (People, look east: ) and sing today: (People, look east: ) Love, the Guest, is on the way.

2. Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare, one more seed is planted there. Give up your strength the seed to nourish, that in course the flower may flourish.
People, look east (People, look east: ) and sing today: (People, look east: ) Love, the Rose, is on the way.

3. Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim, one more light the bowl shall brim, shining beyond
the frosty weather, bright as sun and moon together.
People, look east (People, look east: ) and sing today: (People, look east: ) Love, the Star, is on the way.

4. Angels announce with shouts of mirth him who brings new life to earth. Set every peak and valley humming with the word, the Lord is coming.
People, look east (People, look east: ) and sing today: (People, look east: ) Love, the Lord, is on the way.

Come All Ye Families of all shapes and sizes. Join us for a fun, family-friendly Christmas Eve service. Every element of this service has been designed with families and kids in mind (whether you’re 1 or 99). We will sing familiar Christmas songs, watch a video or two explaining the Christmas story. Crying babies and kids running up and down the aisles are welcome. The more the merrier.
7:00 pm - A Service of Lessons and Carols – Come all for the service where we pull out all the stops! We will have the organ, piano, choir, bells, and more! This traditional Christmas Eve service consists of scripture, music, and a message of hope. We will end the service by lighting candles and lifting them high as we celebrate that the light of Christ has come into the world at Christmas. If you are looking for the "Classic" Christmas Eve Service, this is for you. For those with small children, childcare will be provided.
