*Call to Worship
Pastor Donnie Sturgill

Leader: How do we prepare to see Jesus? One-on-one – face-to-face.
People: Can we see His face in others? Would we meet them showing grace?
Leader: We only get one chance to make a first impression; let us make it one that counts!
People: For that one smile, that kindness shown allowed another to see Jesus' face.
Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made.
People: We shall rejoice and be glad in it!

*Gathering Song
How Lovely, Lord, How Lovely
TFWS #2042
WORDS: Arlo Duba (Ps. 84)
MUSIC: Hal H. Hopson
© 1986 Hope Publishing Co.

1. How lovely, Lord, how lovely is your abiding place; my soul is longing, fainting, to feast upon your grace. The sparrow finds a shelter, a place to build her nest; and so your temple calls us within its walls to rest.

2. In your blest courts to worship, O God, a single day is better than a thousand if I from you should stray. I’d rather keep the entrance and claim you as my Lord than revel in the riches the ways of sin afford.

3. A sun and shield forever are you, O God most high; you shower us with blessings no good will you deny. The saints, your grace receiving, from strength to strength shall go,
and from their life shall rivers of blessings overflow.

1. Lord God, Almighty, Savior, Redeemer, only true God to be worshiped and praised:   How can we tell you how much we love you? Take now our lives, Lord, and teach us to love.

Pastoral Prayer, Silent Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer
Rev. David Petty

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those to trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever.

Scripture Reading
Matthew 22:15-22
CLM Twinkle Gordon

Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one, for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. Then he said to them, “Whose head is this and whose title?” They answered, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed, and they left him and went away.

*Affirmation of Faith
CLM Twinkle Gordon

Leader:
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:
All:
We believe in God as creator and parent, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all creation, and whose will is directed toward the good of all people.
We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Creator’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence of God in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need.
We believe that our faith is lived out in the service of love and that we are co-creators of God’s world.
We are the People of God. We are St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celebrating the Love of God, following the teachings of Christ, Building a better world, and living in the Power of the Spirit.
Amen.

God of Grace and God of Glory
UMH #577
WORDS:  Harry Emerson Fosdick, 1930
By permission of Elinor Fosdick Downs

1. God of grace, and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; crown thine ancient church’s story; bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, (of this hour) for the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! Fear and doubts too long have bound us; free our hearts to work and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, (of these days) for the living of these days.

3. Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to thy control; shame our wanton,
selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, (kingdom’s goal) lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

4. Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; let the search for thy salvation be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore, (we adore) serving thee whom we adore.
