Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
UMH #384
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1747

1. Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down; fix in us Thy humble dwelling; all Thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded
love Thou art; visit us with Thy salvation; enter every trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit; let us find that second rest. Take away our bent to sinning; Alpha and Omega be; end of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

3. Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all Thy life receive; suddenly return and never, nevermore Thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve Thee as Thy hosts above, pray and praise Thee without ceasing, glory in Thy perfect love.

4. Finish, then, Thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be. Let us see Thy great salvation
perfectly restored in Thee; changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Scripture Reading
Luke 19:1-10
Pastor Donnie Sturgill

He entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”

Thou art worthy, thou art worthy, thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, glory and honor, glory and honor and power. For thou hast created, hast all things created; thou hast created all things. And for thy pleasure they are created; thou art worthy, O Lord.

Pastoral Prayer, Silent Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer
Rev. David Petty

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those to trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever.

Scripture Reading
Acts 28:23-31
June Cornish

After they had set a day to meet with him, they came to him at his lodgings in great numbers. From morning until evening he explained the matter to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the prophets. Some were convinced by what he had said, while others refused to believe. So they disagreed with each other, and as they were leaving Paul made one further statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah,
‘Go to this people and say,
You will indeed listen but never understand,
and you will indeed look but never perceive.
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
otherwise they might look with their eyes
and listen with their ears
and understand with their heart and turn—
and I would heal them.’
“Let it be known to you, then, that this salvation of God has been sent to the gentiles; they will listen.”
He lived there two whole years at his own expense and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

*Affirmation of Faith
June Cornish

Leader:
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:
All:
We believe in God as creator and parent, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all creation, and whose will is directed toward the good of all people.
We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Creator’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence of God in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need.
We believe that our faith is lived out in the service of love and that we are co-creators of God’s world.
We are the People of God.
We are St. Paul's United Methodist Church,
Celebrating the Love of God,
following the teachings of Christ,
Building a better world,
and living in the Power of the Spirit.
Amen.

Rise Up, Ye Saints of God
v. 1-3 UMH #576
 WORDS:  William P. Merrill, 1911

1. Rise up, Ye Saints of God! Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength to serve the King of kings.

2. Rise up, Ye Saints of God! The kingdom tarries long. Bring in the day of brotherhood and end the night of wrong.

3. Rise up, Ye Saints of God! The church for you doth wait, her strength unequal to her task; rise up, and make her great!

October Mission

Crossfire: faith and gaming is an online ministry started by Pastor David as an outreach ministry for geeks, gamers, nerds, youth, young people, and digital storytellers. It has a broad digital footprint as a text and voice chat server on Discord, a podcast, a youtube channel, a Facebook group, and a live weekly video stream on Twitch. This ministry has become a place of belonging for those who find it hard to "fit in" among the pews. For youth and the young-at-heart, Crossfire:faith+gaming provides bible study, prayer, and tools for resilience amidst life's challenges. In 2022, Crossfire:faith+gaming partnered with the Boulder Spirit Foundation, a United Methodist Camping Ministry born from the sale of an old church camp. Together, they plan to launch an indoor gaming-based Summer Camp in Denver for Youth in 2023. Eventually, the hope is to expand this summer camp experience into the rest of the Mountain Sky Conference with new camps in Montana, Utah, and Wyoming.

It’s mid-October and thoughts turn to colored leaves, pumpkin spice EVERYTHING … and St. Paul’s annual Trunk or Treat! Here are the details:

WHO: Everyone is welcome including our congregation, neighbors, friends, adults and children.
WHAT: Trunk or Treat is a fall festival with games, a simple meal, children trick or treating in the church parking lot as adults open their decorated trunks, all culminating in a seasonal movie under the stars.
WHERE: 2111 Carlton Avenue in the church parking lot and lawns.
WHEN: On Sunday, October 30th, Trunk or Treat will begin at 5:30 with games and also supper from the Ghoul’s Grille. At 6 pm children will line up for the costume parade which will precede actual trunk or treating at 6:15. Around sunset, families will gather on their lawn chairs or blankets in the parking lot’s outdoor movie area for a short fun movie.
Circle your calendars and plan to attend this great fall event - it’s going to be spook-tacular!
