My Hope Is Built
UMH #368
WORDS: Edward Mote, 1834
1. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
2. When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.
Refrain
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
3. His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.
Refrain
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
4. When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found! Dressed in his
righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne!
Refrain
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.

Scripture Reading
Acts 1:15-17, 21-26
June Cornish
In those days Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters (together the crowd numbered about one hundred twenty persons) and said, “Brothers and sisters, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus, for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.”
“So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection.” So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was added to the eleven apostles.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever.

Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
UMH #94
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Scripture Reading
Acts 2:1-4, 14, 17-18
June Cornish
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say.
‘In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.
Even upon my slaves, both men and women,
in those days I will pour out my Spirit,
and they shall prophesy.

*Affirmation of Faith
CLM Twinkle Gordon
Leader:
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:
All:
We believe in God as creator and parent, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all creation, and whose will is directed toward the good of all people.
We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Creator’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence of God in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need.
We believe that our faith is lived out in the service of love and that we are co-creators of God’s world.
We are the People of God.
We are St. Paul's United Methodist Church,
Celebrating the Love of God,
following the teachings of Christ,
Building a better world,
and living in the Power of the Spirit.
Amen.

God of Grace and God of Glory
UMH #577
WORDS: Harry Emerson Fosdick, 1930
By permission of Elinor Fosdick Downs
1. God of grace, and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; crown thine ancient church’s story; bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, (of this hour) for the facing of this hour.
2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! Fear and doubts too long have bound us; free our hearts to work and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, (of these days) for the living of these days.
3. Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to thy control; shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, (kingdom’s goal) lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.
4. Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; let the search for thy salvation be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore, (we adore) serving thee whom we adore.

The mission of the Month for September: Care & Share
We have an opportunity to continue the blessing. Our neighbors are depending on us. According to Matthew 25:40 in the words of Jesus, “The king will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’.”
Because Care and Share is able to purchase food at greatly reduced costs thereby multiplying the “loaves and fishes,” we are asking for financial donations only. If you make a donation by check, please indicate “September Mission: Care and Share” on the memo line.
Thank you for your continuing support. Missions Committee
