*Gathering Song
We Are God’s People
TFWS #2220
WORDS: Bryan Jeffery Leech
(John 3:5-8; 1 Cor. 3:16; Col. 1:18; 1 Pet. 2:9)
MUSIC: Johannes Brahms, adapt.
© 1976 Fred Bock Music Co.

1. We are God’s people, the chosen of the Lord, born of the Spirit, established by the Word. Our cornerstone is Christ alone, and strong in Christ we stand; O let us live transparently and walk heart to heart and hand in hand.

2. We are God’s loved ones, the Bride of Christ, our Lord, for we have known it, the love of God outpoured. Now let us learn how to return the gift of love once given; O let us share each joy and care and live with a zeal that pleases heaven.

3. We are the body of which the Lord is Head, called to obey Christ, now risen from the dead. God wills us be a family diverse, yet truly one; O let us give our gifts to God and so shall God’s work on earth be done.

4. We are a temple, the Spirit’s dwelling place, formed in great weakness, a cup to hold  God’s grace. We die alone, for on its own each ember loses fire; yet joined in one the flame burns on to give warmth and light and to inspire.

Scripture Reading
Exodus 17:1-7
CLM Twinkle Gordon

From the wilderness of Sin the whole congregation of the Israelites journeyed by stages, as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. The people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” But the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried out to the Lord, “What shall I do for this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” The Lord said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you; take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile and go. I will be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

You are my hiding place. You always fill my heart with songs of deliverance, whenever I am afraid, I will trust in you, I will trust in you.  Let the weak say, “I am strong in the strength
of the Lord.”

Holy Spirit Prayer, Silent Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer
CLM Twinkle Gordon

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those to trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever.

Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
UMH #94

Scripture Reading
Acts 26:19-25
CLM Twinkle Gordon

“After that, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout the countryside of Judea, and also to the gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and do deeds consistent with repentance. For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would take place: that the Messiah must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the gentiles.”
While he was making this defense, Festus exclaimed, “You are out of your mind, Paul! Too much learning is driving you insane!” But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking the sober truth.

to the Lord and leave it there.

Refrain
Leave it there, (leave it there) leave it there, (leave it there) take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. (leave it there) If you trust and never doubt, he will surely bring you out; take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. (leave it there)

Pastor's Discretionary Fund

Starting this Sunday and each communion Sunday thereafter we will have a basket for those who feel called to give above and beyond their pledge. This "second mile" giving will help fund the pastor's discretionary fund which helps meet community needs as they arise such as gas, lodging, clothing, etc. More explanation will be given next week, but feel free to bring your spare cash and change to help make a change in the lives of those in need.
The mission of the Month for September: Care & Share

We have an opportunity to continue the blessing. Our neighbors are depending on us. According to Matthew 25:40 in the words of Jesus, “The king will reply,   ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’.”
Because Care and Share are able to purchase food at greatly reduced costs thereby multiplying the “loaves and fishes,” we are asking for financial donations only. If you make a donation by check, please indicate “September Mission: Care and Share” on the memo line.
Thank you for your continuing support. Missions Committee
