Liturgy

Our November Mission is ROCKY MOUNTAIN KIDS.
With over 29 years of service to teens, we have four community-based residential homes in Colorado Springs. We also have 1 high-level foster home for boys ages10-13 as well.
The children and teens ranging from ages 10-20 are supported by a caring staff in a safe environment where they can heal from the abuse and neglect in their past. They are given opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, including school sports and enrichment programs. The teens are also provided with life skills training, educational support, and assistance for employment. These skills will help them succeed in life, whether their goal is to return home or emancipate and live independently. We see these kids’ trauma and help repair the wounds.
One of the homes even has an innovative apartment program, where a young man emancipating into self-sufficiency can use the upstairs apartment and "try out" his new independent status to prepare to transition out of our homes.
Typically, the length of stay for a teen in our program varies from 6 months to 2 years.
In December, we have a hands-on mission project of decorating Christmas stockings for the RMKids during Fellowship time. The exact Sunday will be announced.

Grocery Cards
It’s always a great time to purchase grocery cards from the church. They can be used at all Safeway and KingSoopers stores, in addition to using them for your own grocery shopping. They are as simple to use as a credit or debit card. You can purchase grocery cards for $25, $50, or $100. The cards never expire, and you can use them multiple times until the entire balance on the card has been spent. Best of all, the church makes 5% of the face value of each card sold.

TESLA
A number of students attending the TESLA school across the
street from the church have some needs that you can help supply.
They need food cards, deodorant (boys and girls scents), hairbrushes, toothpaste/toothbrushes, hoodies/sweaters (all adult sizes),
and boys’ and girls’ t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts (all adult sizes).
They have also asked for help with a food drive. You can donate grocery cards or non-perishables. Any assistance you can provide will let the young people know that people care about them.

*Hymn
For the Beauty of the Earth
v. 1-4 UMH #92
WORDS: Folliot S. Pierpoint, 1864
1. For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love
which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Refrain
Lord of all,
to thee we raise
this our hymn
of grateful praise.
2. For the beauty
of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and
tree and flower,
sun and moon, and
stars of light;
Refrain
Lord of all,
to thee we raise
this our hymn
of grateful praise.
3. For the joy of
ear and eye,
for the heart
and mind’s delight,
for the mystic harmony
linking sense
to sound and sight;
Refrain
Lord of all,
to thee we raise
this our hymn
of grateful praise.
4. For the joy of human love,
brother, sister,
parent, child,
friends on earth and
friends above,
for all gentle thoughts
and mild;
Refrain
Lord of all,
to thee we raise
this our hymn
of grateful praise.
Now Thank We All Our God
UMH #102
WORDS: Martin Rinkart, 1636; trans. by Catherine Winkworth, 1858
(Sir. 50:22-24)
1. Now thank we all our God,
with heart and
hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom this world rejoices;
who from our
mothers’ arms
has blessed us
on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.
2. O may this bounteous God
through all our life
be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace
to cheer us;
and keep us still in grace,
and guide us
when perplexed;
and free us from all ills,
in this world and the next.
3. All praise and
thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son,
and him who reigns
with them in highest heaven;
the one eternal God,
whom earth and
heaven adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.

Joshua 24:1-3a
Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Long ago your ancestors—Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor—lived beyond the Euphrates and served other gods. Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan and made his offspring many.
Joshua 24:14-25
“Now, therefore, revere the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt and serve the Lord. Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living, but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods, for it is the Lord our God who brought us and our ancestors up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight. He protected us along all the way that we went and among all the peoples through whom we passed, and the Lord drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”
But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” And the people said to Joshua, “No, we will serve the Lord!” Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.” The people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey.” So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem.
Psalm 78:1-7
God’s Goodness and Israel’s Ingratitude
A Maskil of Asaph.
Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings from of old,
things that we have heard and known,
that our ancestors have told us.
We will not hide them from their children;
we will tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord and his might
and the wonders that he has done.
He established a decree in Jacob
and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
to teach to their children,
that the next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,
and rise up and tell them to their children,
so that they should set their hope in God,
and not forget the works of God,
but keep his commandments;

All: be acceptable in your sight, O Lord our rock and our redeemer.

WORDS: Omer Westendorf, 1964

1. Sent forth by
God’s blessing,
our true faith confessing,
thy people of God
from this dwelling take leave.
The service is ended,
O now be extended
the fruits of our worship
in all who believe.
The seed of the teaching,
receptive souls reaching,
shall blossom in action
for God and for all.
God’s grace did invite us,
and love shall unite us
to work for
God’s kingdom
and answer the call.
2. With praise and
thanksgiving
to God ever living,
the tasks of
our everyday
life we will face.
Our faith ever sharing,
in love ever caring,
embracing God’s children
of each tribe and race.
With Your grace
You feed us,
with Your light now lead us;
unite us as one in this
life that we share.
Then may all the living
with praise
and thanksgiving
give honor to Christ
and that name
which we bear.
