June Cross Current

May Newsletter

Dear Siblings in Christ,

June has a way of scattering us.

Some of us are in the mountains. Some are on the road. Some are hosting family. Some are finally resting. Some are simply trying to keep up with the beautiful chaos of summer. The choir takes a hiatus, many of our members take vacations, and our programming slows down a bit as the days get longer and warmer.

And that is okay.

I do not believe attendance is the only indicator of the depth of our faith. I also do not believe the pews have to be full every Sunday for us to be a vital and vibrant church. Of course, gathering matters. Worship matters. Fellowship matters. We need one another. But the church has never been only what happens inside the sanctuary.

In Matthew 5:14–16, Jesus tells his disciples, “You are the light of the world.” Not simply the light of the sanctuary. Not only the light when everyone is gathered in one place. The light of the world. That means our faith is meant to shine in grocery stores and campgrounds, around family dinner tables and airport terminals, on hiking trails and neighborhood sidewalks, through ordinary acts of patience, kindness, generosity, justice, and grace.

Acts 2:42–47 gives us a picture of the early church as a people devoted to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. They worshiped together, shared what they had, cared for those in need, and ate together with glad and generous hearts. Their faith was not confined to one hour a week. It spilled into homes, meals, friendships, resources, and everyday life.

That is still our calling.

John Wesley famously said, “The world is my parish.” For Wesley, ministry was never limited to a pulpit or a church building. Wherever God’s people found themselves, there was an opportunity to serve, love, pray, encourage, and bear witness to grace.

So wherever June takes you, remember that you are still part of the body of Christ. When you are traveling, be gentle and generous. When you are with family, practice patience and love. When you are resting, receive it as a gift from God. When you are in town, come worship with us. When you are away, pray for your church, your community, and the world.

Our schedule may change, but our calling does not.

May we not simply go to church this summer.

May we be the church. Here. There. Everywhere.

June Monthly Mission - Crossfire: Faith+Gaming

Crossfire:faith+gaming is an online ministry (and now a series of in-person summer camps) meant to reach nerds, geeks, and gamers of all ages. Crossfire's online community gathers weekly in an online voice chat and throughout the week in text chats on a Discord* server. Crossfire also produces a podcast, YouTube channel, and live-streaming Twitch.tv* channel. The goal of Crossfire is to help reach generations of people who have felt left out of the church and this ministry often reaches people who have left the church due to church hurt or not feeling like they belong.

In 2023, Crossfire expanded its ministries to include an in-person Summer Day Camp. Now, in 2026, this camp will cover multiple sessions across the front range of Colorado and two cities in Montana. Crossfire Camp is not your typical camp. Crossfire is a whole new camp for a whole new generation of camper. At Crossfire Camp, the kids play games, explore their nerdy side, deepen their faith, and explore the place where faith and pop-culture combine.

As a new ministry reaching an unreached group of people, Crossfire relies mostly on the generous donations of organizations, churches, and individuals to make its ministries possible. Thank you for supporting this vital ministry and supporting the discipleship journeys of youth and young people in your region.

Note from SPRC

St. Paul’s Members,

Valerie Cox will be retiring on June 14th. During fellowship time there will be cake and punch honoring her amazing service to the church. Come & wish her Best Wishes on her next adventure.

Thank you,
SPRC

Pastor's Discretionary Fund

Each communion Sunday thereafter we will have a basket for those who feel called to give above and beyond their pledge. This "second-mile" giving will help fund the pastor's discretionary fund, which helps meet community needs as they arise, such as gas, lodging, clothing, etc. Feel free to bring your spare cash and change to help make a change in the lives of those in need.

Communion for the Homebound

St. Paul’s members- we need your help. If you know of anyone in our St. Paul’s family who is homebound, in a nursing home, or unable to come to church for a while, please let me know their name and phone number. I will be happy to contact them and see if they would appreciate having communion brought to them. Lu Petersen, 597-2824.

Grocery Cards

As the holidays approach, it’s never been a better time to purchase grocery cards from the church. They can be used at all Safeway and Kings Soopers stores. In addition to using them for your own grocery shopping, they make great gifts and stocking stuffers. They are as simple to use as a credit or debit card. You can purchase grocery cards for $25, $50, or $100. The cards never expire and you can use them multiple times until the entire balance on the card has been sent. Best of all, the church makes 5% of the face value of each card sold.

Tesla

A number of students attending the TESLA school across the street from the church have some needs that you can help supply. They need food cards, deodorant (boys and girls scents), hairbrushes, toothpaste/toothbrushes, hoodies/sweaters (all adult sizes), and boys’ and girls’ t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts (all adult sizes).
They have also asked for help with a food drive. You can donate grocery cards or non-perishables. Any assistance you can provide will let the young people know that people care about them.

Coat Box

We will be collecting coats for Springs Rescue Mission. A box is located in the Narthex.

Save your Pop Tabs

The Children’s Ministry has been called to collect pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House.
A jar will be placed in the Narthex on the information table.

Hospitality has had a busy Spring. I want to say a big "THANK YOU" to all those who have helped with Sunday Fellowship, Palm Sunday Potluck, Easter and most recently with the 2 Spring Concert receptions for the Home School Music program on May 8th and 15th. Things will be a little calmer over the summer, but I will still need help for Fellowship on Sundays. Can always use donations of goodies for Fellowship time ... these can certainly be store bought.
