February's Mission focus is TESSA

TESSA was founded on January 1,1977. TESSA offers confidential support and services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking and their children through a number of services.

TESSA staff provide help in crisis situations through a Safe Line. Works with victims to create safety plans and connects victims with other community services.
TESSA's Safehouse provides shelter, food, case management, housing assistance, counseling and support to female survivors and their children.

The TESSA Team helps victims navigate the criminal justice system, provides legal assistance and connects victims with community resources.

TESSA team members provide counseling, case management, support groups and fun group activities for kids both in and out of the TESSA Safehouse.

Finally, TESSA Therapists provide individual and group psychotherapy, as well as the therapeutic support groups for domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
February's mission is Tessa. In March we will have a "Hands on Mission” putting together children's Comfort Kits.

Often, the children spend hours sitting in a hospital, police station, courtroom or come into Tessa with nothing. These kits will offer them things to do during these long waiting times. The kits cost $5 each and will include mini-coloring books, crayons, a squishy toy, mini-playdough, a finger puppet and a mini-story book.

If you would like to donate to buy "Comfort Kits" please include the words Comfort Kit in the memo line of your check, on your envelope or designate the account for your online giving.

Thank You in advance for your generosity in giving
these kids a touch of normalcy in their lives.

*Opening Hymn
Jesus, Joy of Our Desiring
UMH #644
WORDS: Martin Janus, 1661; trans. anon.

1. Jesus, joy of our desiring,
holy wisdom,
love most bright;

drawn by thee,
our souls aspiring
soar to uncreated light.

Word of God,
our flesh that fashioned,
with the fire
of life impassioned,

striving still
to truths unknown,
soaring, dying
round thy throne.

2. Through the way
where hope is guiding,
hark, what peaceful
music rings;

where the flock,
in thee confiding,
drink of joy from
deathless springs.

Theirs is beauty’s
fairest pleasure;
theirs is wisdom’s
holiest treasure.

Thou dost ever
lead thine own
in the love
of joys unknown.

*Worship Hymn
Majesty, Worship His Majesty
UMH #176
WORDS: Jack Hayford, 1981
© 1981 Rocksmith Music c/o Trust Music Management

Majesty,
worship his majesty;
unto Jesus be all
glory, honor, and praise.

Majesty,
kingdom authority,
flow from his throne
unto his own;
his anthem raise.

So exalt,
lift up on high
the name of Jesus.
Magnify, come glorify
Christ Jesus, the King.

Majesty,
worship his majesty,
Jesus who died,
now glorified,
King of all kings.

Scripture Reading
Polly Cox

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became bright as light. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will set up three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they raised their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Prayer for Illumination
Leader: May the words of my mouth,
People: and the meditations of all of our hearts
All: be acceptable in your sight, O Lord our rock and our redeemer.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
UMH #349
WORDS: Helen H. Lemmel, 1922

Turn your eyes
upon Jesus,
look full in His
wonderful face, (wonderful face,)

and the things of earth
will grow strangely dim
in the light of His
glory and grace.

Pastoral Prayer, Silent Prayer, The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father
who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name;

Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us
our trespasses,

as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
Lead us not
into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom,
and the Power
and the Glory forever.
Amen

Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies
UMH #173
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1740

1. Christ, whose glory
fills the skies,
Christ, the true,
the only light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise,

triumph o’er the
shades of night;
Dayspring from on
high, be near;
Daystar, in my
heart appear.

2. Dark and cheerless
is the morn
unaccompanied by thee;
joyless is the
day’s return,

till thy mercy’s
beams I see;
till they inward
light impart,
cheer my eyes and
warm my heart.

3. Visit then this
soul of mine;
pierce the gloom
of sin and grief;
fill me,
Radiancy divine,

scatter all my unbelief;
more and more
thyself display,
shining to the
perfect day.
